The Commando Short is one of our greatest examples of remaining true to the heritage and functionality that gave heart to the original M-51 pant—minus the legs. Lightweight cotton/nylon shell fabric of incredibly high tensile strength replaces the heavy cotton sateen of the original product. At less than 50% of the original product weight, some things are worth evolving. A few elements of the classic U.S. design that we meticulously sourced are the tape-reinforced hidden black oxidized copper-plated brass snaps, along with stronger black oxidized brass adjustable waist tabs. Additionally, we’ve faithfully maintained the canvas straps found inside the pleated cargo pockets, originally used for field dressing. These straps of unequal lengths exit the eyeholes at the rear of each cargo pocket and wrap around at the center-front crotch loop. Today they serve as instant low-tech tourniquets because rattlesnakes can happen. They’re also pretty cool to just let fly out the back to make your own statement.
